HUG

Austin, Texas

HUG is a happily deranged band that creates fun, sexually oriented music full of modern political views and openly taboo aspects of modern, repressed sexuality. Their charmingly sophomoric yet anthemic songs get stuck in your head and can have you dancing in fits. They are crazy, whacky guys, an institution, and a chapter in Austin weirdness.
After forming in 1997 and playing extensively through out the Austin club scene, HUG found national attention in 2007 when Myspace selected their “Don’t Shoot the President” as a “cool new video” receiving over 97,000 views in one day.
Vocalist Blair Hug occasionally plays the Theremin with Helios Creed and Golden Arm Trio, while guitarist Jack Hug once played bass in the infamous Washington DC post-punk band, “No Trend”.
HUG’s sixth CD, mastered by KRAMER and titled “Cravings, Lust and Chaos” will be released on Australian Cattle God Records on February 23, 2010.

Press:

"With it's Casio bleats, guitar blurts, and mental-patient
vocals, Hug's Lickable CD was the outrageous Austin CD of the early
2000's. For their live show, expect hideous dancers and flying debris"-
Spin, July 2006

"Hug will make your urine burn a little more than usual"-Austin Powell,
Austin Chronicle

"I want to share HUG with everyone" -Whoopsy, March 2006

"...Then there is a decidedly nonfamily event- a rousing evening of highly
combustible music by HUG, a sort of Mexican psycopathic, scatological hip
hop group. Very tongue-in-cheek. Note: Pre-programmed keyboard and a wacky
front man anchor the act. Strong of wit and stomach? Check out HUG.."-
Austin American Statesman July 1, 1999.

"HUG is another case of accidental artistic genius, a bunch of
unmarketable old pervs hell-bent on being an offense to regular people in
general and to "music business" in particular. Songs like "Shit Sex" and
masked ghouls in garters fingering themselves on the floor, shredded porno
flying everywhere, drunken half-naked lesbians falling on their faces, and
some of the most divine, evil-clown singing that I have witnessed in the
Live Music Capitol." -Bek Sabbath, Rank and Revue Magazine, July 2004
